MARCUS POPE

Marcus received his BS in Music Education/Performance from Alabama A&M University in 2002.  He was blessed to open Pope's School of Percussion in Huntsville, Alabama in 2009, offering private instruction in snare, mallets, and drum set. He also provides percussion instruction at Randolph School and is proud to have been a 2022 honoree of The Microwave Dave Music Education Foundation.

Pope’s School of Percussion's annual afternoon workshop, “Back to Basics”, is taught by world-renowned artists such as Will Kennedy (Yellowjackets), Mike Johnston (Simon Says), Greg Clark Jr. (Snarky Puppy, Leann Rimes), JFly, Larnell Lewis (Snarky Puppy), Darrell Tibbs (Take 6, Donna Summer), and JD Blair (Victor Wooten, Shania Twain).  That evening, the workshop clinicians join "Marcus & Friends"  for Huntsville's favorite concert, "Drummers' NIght Out."

Marcus released his first jazz EP, "This Is How I Feel," in 2017.  He's also been credited on many projects such as Kelvin Wooten’s “Windows”; JD Blair’s “2012?”; The Waters/Felts Project”; Madison Mission’s “Soulful Christmas”; Tracy Hamlin’s “Better Days”; Russell Smith’s “The End Is Not In Sight”; James Bowman’s “My Perspective” and “She’s an Original”; Jolanda Green’s “Sacred Serenade”; and Sam Pope Jr’s “His Sound” and “Hear Our Prayer.”

He's been blessed with opportunities to work with many national artists and musicians (including Grammy Award winners and nominees) such as Kelvin Wooten, Anthony Hamilton, Elayna Boynton, Walter Hawkins, Kim Burrell, Maurette Brown Clark, Eddie Levert, Percy Sledge, Candi Stanton, Ellis Marsalis, Eddie Spanky Alford, Ingrid Felts, Harvey Thompson, James D. Blair, Mac Davis, and Russell Smith.
